According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a 77-year-old woman who died two weeks after being struck at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and 39th Avenue at the end of March, is the third pedestrian fatality in San Francisco in 2025. The local safety advocate group, Walk San Francisco, cites this intersection as being “inherently dangerous” for pedestrians because it is a wide boulevard consisting of four travel lanes that lack sufficient stop signs and traffic lights. Pedestrian deaths are a common reason that families of victims seek the help of a Santa Monica, CA wrongful death lawyer. A lawyer may be able to help them recover financial compensation by filing a personal injury claim against the person or entity whose negligent, reckless, or malicious actions led to the victim’s untimely death.
The area where this unfortunate accident occurred is a quieter, residential stretch of Geary Boulevard and yet despite this, its new 25 MPH speed limit, and the fact that a pedestrian died nearby in a similar 2020 incident, drivers still speed on this stretch of Geary.
This marks the third pedestrian death in San Francisco with the first two being struck and killed in January of 2025.
According to Walk SF, the 24 pedestrians who were killed after being struck by vehicles in the city in 2024, are the highest number of San Francisco pedestrian deaths in a year in over a decade.
When an innocent person is injured or killed because of someone or an entity’s negligence or ill-intent, the victim or the victim’s family may be able to hold the perpetrator liable for expenses that are the result of their injury or death, as well as for things such as pain and suffering, or grief and loss. This is typically done through a personal injury claim and a civil lawsuit. There are many different types of personal injury claims of which a wrongful death claim is one. Other common personal injury claims that can result in a wrongful death include, distracted driver accidents, workplace injuries, premises liability injuries, faulty or dangerous product injuries, and as discussed earlier, pedestrian accidents.
Pedestrians are especially susceptible to catastrophic injuries and deaths. Even though San Francisco is a city full of pedestrians who rely on their feet to get around, negligent and reckless drivers continue to seriously injure and kill them. When an innocent pedestrian dies because of their injuries after being struck by a vehicle, a personal injury lawyer who is experienced with successfully defending the rights of wrongful death victim’s families, may be able to help them seek compensation for things such as funeral, burial, and medical expenses, loss of income, loss of benefits, loss of companionship, loss of a caregiver, and for their grief and sorrow.
